WHAT'S THE CONNECTION?

WHAT'S THE CONNECTION?

With all the dances in the world, how do we remember them all? All the patterns, all the music, all the rules… There has to be a connection between the dances.

Arthur Murray developed a method of learning known as the “Interrelated System” where dances and patterns are connected through a manner of different elements, rhythms, & fundamental ideas to make learning easier for all. He found that students learn most effectively on a scholastic basis where content & concepts are shared between dances.

Some connections are more straightforward, but others may be a bit of mystery. So let’s do some detective work and uncover some hidden connections between unlikely dances!

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM ARTHUR MURRAY HIMSELF

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM ARTHUR MURRAY HIMSELF

As I was doing a little winter cleaning over the holidays, I stumbled upon a wonderful piece of history - a copy of “Arthur Murray’s Dance Book” from the early 1940’s.

These little booklets were part of how Mr. Murray spread the joys and teachings of dancing to masses. Each book contained illustrations, diagrams, anecdotes, stories, Do’s & Don’ts, advice, and more. Once I found the book, I took a few moments to flip through the tea-stained pages and found an article written by Mr. Murray himself that just had to share.

In it, he describes how he came to love dancing, the obstacles he overcame, and what he believes dancing could do for the nation.

You may have heard of the many positive benefits dancing can offer, such as increased flexibility, maintaining mental awareness, improving posture and balance, increasing social ease, and more. However, these benefits can be even more worthwhile during your pregnancy. Often, it can be difficult to get up and exercise while pregnant, but believe me, get up and dance! It will do wonders for your mind, body, & health during & after your pregnancy. It did for me.
